    DMV Unified State Tournament

Since I put on the board about the DMV doing things together and that I would front the bill to get it going I got no responses on the board or by phone from some of the powers that be.  So I have taken it upon myself to get the fields (Crofton Sports Complex) It has 7 full sized fields and 3 fields for 4 man.  I have also gotten commitments from Fabb Sports and King Athletics to provide COED teams so we will have around 10 COED teams participating.  We also have gotten the services of the Mid Atlantic Football League in Northern VA and they will be handling the 8 man ineligible portion of the tournament and we already have a commitment from 12 teams that play that style.  We have the support of the Beltway Flag League and the Bulldog Flag league.  They play 9 man and we will more than likely have about 6-8 teams playing that style.  We also have the commitment from the WAFFL and MDFlag to help with 8 man eligible and 4 man, I am quite sure that this will be a great tournament because we are all working together.  Now George/BW/Ely what are you going to do... Put up or shut up.

The entry fee will be $450.00
There will be a bids given out in each division.  The bids will be as follows.

"A" and "B" division winners will receive a paid bid to the MCFFU World Championships in Vegas in March, a bid to the MCFFU Nationals in VA Beach in June and a bid to the USFTL Nationals in Orlando in January.

9 man and 8 man ineligble will receive a paid bid to the MCFFU World Championships for their style in Orlando in January and to the MCFFU Nationals in VA Beach in June.

4 man will receive a paid bid to the Let it Fly National 4 man ciruit in Indianapolis, MCFFU Nationals in VA Beach in June and the USFTL Nationals in Orlando in January.

All other divisions will get a paid bid to the MCFFU Nationals in VA Beach in June and a bid to the USFTL Nationals in Orlando.  The MCFFU doesn't currently offer the other styles at the World Championships in Vegas.

Now I am sure that a lot of people will make a lot of negative comments about is going on.  That is fine with me. The majority of the PROFITS will be split up between all of the participating leagues.  We can also create and generate our own flag circuit.  We have been asked to help create a new tourney called The DMV vs The Dirty South NIT in Charlotte to be held in August of 09.  We can have our own DMV Cup to replace the Metro Cup. The States can be the DMV States (the first Unified Tourney November of 08).  Our Nationals can be in VA Beach and we have support from teams in Colorado, New Orleans, Ohio, Texas, Atlanta, Tennesee, North Carolina, Va, Delware, New York and here at home.  And I have talked with the people who run leagues and are coaches and players on teams in each of those areas and they are looking for something fresh and new and they are all for coming to VA Beach to play in the summers.  And each league can sponsor smaller tournaments that we can all support and if we can all work to support the smaller ones as well as the major ones we can write our own ticket in flag.

The reason that the MCFFU is at the top of the prize and tournament list is because they helped to procure the fields and some other things in association with this tournament and the GDL that was held in VA Beach in June.  In my opinion they are also helping to move the game of flag in a direction that will benefit the teams in the future.  Mr. Cihon has stated that the USFTL isn't broken so there is no need to fix it.  That is cool with me and I don't knock him for it.  I have played flag for 14 years and I have done it for the love of the game.  So for the love of the game I am trying to help bring change and I am starting with the DMV first.  A lot of you don't realize that there are over 700 flag teams playing in many styles in our immediate are alone.  There are another 300 or so teams that play between Woodbridge VA down to the borders of SC and how many of them have you  actually played against or have you seen.  The gold mine of flag in this area needs to be tapped and the relationships with all of the areas need to be forged Richmond, New Port News, Hampton, Norfolk, VA Beach, Northern VA Loudon County and Fairfax just to name a few.  The MCFFU want to help us develop those relationships and to create our own Circuit. We also should work with the other regions that they have assembled their own Circuits as well and possibly getting back to playing for the love and fun of the game and playing competition that doesn't mind coming to our area to get some bump.  We can also get bump around the country with teams that we have never seen or heard of.  To me that is the change that we need and if Jey Jones and the MCFFU can help us do that then why not try.

That is just what I feel and what is being offered.  Even if you don't like me or other leagues you have to admit that this is a better option than what we have in place now.

    PEACE

    Byron
